CHOSEN

It was a beautiful sunny day as I drove home from work. My boss decided to let me go home early.

“Enjoy your weekend,” he said.

Despite the sun being out and it being spring, the day seemed to have sort of a gloomy feel to it.

As I pulled up to the driveway I noticed an unfamiliar car parked in it. I figured John, my husband, must be home early with the company car. Occasionally, they’d let him drive the company’s vehicle home if he had to conduct business early in the morning. I gave no mind to it.

Sarah was at school so this would be a surprise for him. It had been so long since I felt my husband’s touch. John always complained about being uncomfortable with Sarah being in the other room. This made it difficult to get intimate with him. Well the timing was perfect. He would have no excuse.

Excited at this thought, I paid no mind to the mess in the kitchen or in the living room. That was, until I heard moaning and groaning from the master bedroom.

I recognized John’s pants immediately, but that other voice…a woman’s!

My heart started rapidly beating as my mind ran through the different scenarios in my head. Perhaps I heard it wrong, there wasn’t a female voice. Perhaps no one was home at all. Perhaps my long dry spell was misleading me to think that I heard John.

The panting got louder. There were certainly two voices alright. I could feel my heart jumping out of my chest as I opened the door to see John, butt naked. I stood at the doorway with my eyes wide open. My jaws dropped. For a split second I thought I heard my heart shattered into pieces.

Beneath John was a younger woman. He surely was deep in her. Both seemed to be enjoying themselves so much that they didn’t even hear me come in.

“What the hell John!” was all that came out of my mouth.

He jumped off of her instinctively.

“Teresa, you’re not supposed to be home early,” he responded as he got out of bed. The girl pulled the sheets up to cover her.

“You whore! Get out of my bed!” I screamed at her. Rage filled me.

I lunged at her, but she was quick and dodged me. She ran out the door, grabbed her purse and whatever clothes she could swoop up by the front door.

“Don’t act like a crazy lunatic Teresa!” John yelled as he tried to restrain me.

“Let me go John! I’m going to kill her!” I screamed, fighting to get loose so I could unleash my anger.

Minutes after the girl slammed the front door shut, I turned to John.

“You son of a—” I began.

“Oh shut up Teresa! You’re acting crazy. You’re exactly like those crazy women on that television show you watch so much!”

“How dare you John! Of course I’m going to act crazy. I just saw my husband in bed with another woman!”

“You’re crazy Teresa. It’s all your fault anyways!”

“How’s it my fault John? Huh? Explain it to me.
